This was a very sad and painful interview, to learn and hear more facts about what happened to Shane on that horrific night of June 6th, 2020. I couldn’t help but feel helpless and down.  Protective and loving sister, Cassie Lynn opens up and talks about where Shane was, when he tragically was killed. My heart hurts to know and see how the Smith family and friends are suffering through this unimaginable loss of someone they love so much. Shane Smith needs to be located so he can have a proper funeral and be honoured, he deserves this. His loving family and friends need to say goodbye to their precious missing loved one.

Written by Cassie, Shanes big sister:
~ June 6th, 2020.  The worst day of my life. Of any parents, siblings, friends life. This was the day, one year ago, that someone who was supposed to be my little brother’s friend, carelessly took his life. The day he had other’s who were supposed to be friends, dispose of his body instead of calling for help. Instead of telling the truth.
Shane Eric James Smith was born on October 16, 1999. The happiest day of my life getting to become a big sister. I remember hearing my mom had the baby and getting so excited I jumped and landed on scissors cutting my knee open. A scar I can look at for the rest of my life remembering the joy of that day. Now there is also a permanent scar on my heart from loosing him.
Over the last year since Shane tragically lost his life a few things have happened. Three men have been charged and one has been sentenced. The man who irresponsibly pointed a gun at my brother, without checking to see if there was a round chambered, Ian Charles Ambercrombie, was sentenced on December 18th. 2020, after pleading guilty to “Criminal Negligence Causing Death and Indignity to a Human Body.” His sentence is short and in my opinion not fair for what he did at all. Two others have been charged as well. Andrew Leger-Wagner and Andrew Bablitz. Both with “Obstruction of Justice and Indignity to a Human Body” as well as some firearms charges. Wagner will see a sentencing in November and Bablitz is going to trial in December. For now, they remain out on bail walking the streets like they have done nothing wrong. While one of them even claims to have done nothing, when we know that is not the case.
In addition to the legal things that have happened, many searches for Shane have gone out. Many volunteers on boats, rafts, with dog teams and we are so grateful to all who have tried to help. Flyers have gone up many many times and continue to do so. Support wear has been purchased and worn as well as car decals and the support is amazing.
My brother is believed to be in the Bow River, but if anyone has any other information that could help locate him I beg and plead for them to come forward. He did not deserve this and does not deserve to be out there all alone. He deserves to be laid to rest properly and have a goodbye from all who love him.
Thank you for listening and sharing this podcast. Please help us bring Shane home and get justice for him.
#JUSTICEFORSHANE
Sincerely, Cassie Smith  (June. You used to be my favourite month. Time for joy and fun. Now all you bring is intense pain and heartache. The calendar on my wall hasn’t moved since the day my world came crashing down. Since my favourite person in the world was taken from me and everyone who loved him. I’m not sure how to face the days coming at all.)
